Sprinters Rise to the Challenge at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas (4/14/18) - Even with a small contingent competing at the Texas Invitational, the Tigers came up in scoring positions as Princeton finished fifth at the Texas Invitational team standings.
It was an excellent day for the Princeton sprinters, who excelled in the out-of-region meet against some of strong competition.
Senior Christina Walter clocked a personal best of 11.91 in the 100. To place seventh overall and fifth among collegians. Her 11.91 is the fourth best time in Princeton history.
In the 100 hurdles, junior Ellie Randolph ran a wind-aided 13.68 to take third overall with a new personal best. Her previous best was a 13.73 wind-aided mark, while she has a 13.94 legal wind time. With a +2.8 wind speed, the time however will not count towards NCAA qualifying.
Walter and Randolph made up the middle two legs of the 4x100 relay that clocked 47.56 to take seventh. Led off by freshman Heide Baron and closed by freshman Katie DiFrancesco, who ran a season best in the 200 yesterday at 24.26.
Sophomore Ashley Willingham had her fastest time of the season in the 400, boding well as the Tigers inch towards Ivy League Heps. Willingham placed 11th overall at 56.54.
Senior Carly Bonnet was sixth in the 400 hurdles at 1:01.66, and sophomore Devon Block-Funkhouser took eighth at 1:02.22.
In the 4x400 relay, DiFrancesco, Willingham, Block-Funkhouser and Bonnet finished fifth overall at 3:47.05, the fastest time put up by a Princeton relay this season.
In the triple jump, all three Tigers had season best marks. Junior Kerri Davidson landed at 12.13 (39-9.75) on her third attempt to take ninth. Right behind her was freshman Kara Steele with an 11.77 (38-7.5) coming on her first attempt. Also hitting their best on the first attempt was sophomore Katie Barnett with an 11.59 (38-0.25) to take 11th place.
The lone throwing event of the day saw two big performances from the Orange & Black. Fresh off of setting the school record in the discus last weekend, freshman Obiageri Amaechi outdid herself with the second-best throw of her career, a 53.64 (176) on her second attempt. That mark is the fourth best throw in Ivy League history as she continues to push herself each meet. Amaechi's best came on her second attempt, while she also hit 51.58, 50.64 and 49.36.
Senior Kennedy O'Dell, who had a PR in the shot put yesterday as well as a fifth-place throw in the hammer, continued to make distance today with a 50.89 (166-11) on her final attempt to finish in fourth place in the discus.
Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend, April 20-21 at Weaver Stadium.
