Amaechi Throws Third-Best Mark in Ivy History on Day 2 of Larry Ellis

For the third straight meet freshman Obiageri Amaechi threw a Princeton record – this time coming up with a 54.54 (178-7) for the win as Princeton wrapped up Day 2 of the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday, April 21. Amaechi has continued to push herself every meet, nailing a 52.69 in her first outing, a 53.64 last week at Texas and now today a 54.54. The mark leaps her over Penn's Maurel Kimmel as the third best throw in the Ivy League and the best throw in the league this season. It is also the eighth best throw in the East with still four weeks remaining until the NCAA Regionals.
Amaechi started the day with a 53.10, and also had throws of 49.88, 49.99, 51.29, before her sixth and best throw of the day.
Senior Kennedy O'Dell who PR'ed in the hammer throw yesterday took fourth place in the discus at 49.98 (160-8), coming on her attempt. O'Dell also placed fourth in the shot put at 14.64 (48-0.5), again coming up with the big throw on her final attempt. She also had marks of 14.54, 14.39, 14.10 and 13.93.
In the high jump, freshman Lindsey Schmidt had a season-best of 1.66 (5-5.25) to take seventh place. She cleared the height on her third attempt, after easily clearing the first two heights of 1.58 and 1.62. The 1.66 is the best mark for the Tigers this season.
Junior Ellie Randolph qualified for the 100-meter hurdle final after a 14.05 in prelims. She took sixth in the final at 14.15.
Intermediate hurdlers, senior Carly Bonnet and sophomore Devon Block-Funkhouser took a break from the hurdles this afternoon to run a flat 400. Bonnet had the best time at 56.73, to take ninth while Block-Funkhouser was not far back at 56.87. They are the two of fastest three times Princeton has had in the 400 this season, joining Ashley Willingham in clocking in under 57 seconds.
The Tigers put on a clinic in the 800 going 1-2-3. Junior Brighie Leach took the win with a PR of 2:12.11 (1:05.37, 2:12.11) in the first time she has run this event this season. Freshman Sophie Cantine took second at 2:12.97 (1:40.64, 2:12.97) and junior Madison Offstein was third with a PR of 2:13.02 (1:04.47, 2:13.02).
Heide Baron, Christina Walter, Ashley Willingham, Katie DiFrancesco were sixth in the 4x100 with a 47.13. Walter later took fourth in the 200 at 24.46 thisclose to her PR of 24.41.
Princeton will compete at the Penn Relays this upcoming week and also at the TCNJ Lions Invitational on Saturday. They mark the final meets before Ivy League Heps on May 5-6 at Franklin Field.
