Youth Day Set for Saturday as Penn Visits for Weekend Series
April 25, 2018 | Softball
Youth Day will be Saturday as the Princeton softball team hosts Penn for one Friday at 2:30 p.m. and two Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Class of 1895 Field.
Links for live stats and Ivy League Network coverage are available on the schedule page.
The day will include Tiger gear and a postgame kids-run-the-bases and autograph session.
As for the games themselves, the penultimate weekend of Ivy League play for half the league and the last weekend for the other half will further settle the race for Ivy League Championship Series bids.
Harvard, at 13-5, and Dartmouth, at 10-5, hold those ILCS spots entering the weekend. Columbia is just a half-game out of the second spot at 11-7 with Penn next at 9-9, followed by Cornell and Princeton at 7-8. Yale, at 6-12, and Brown, at 3-12, round out the standings.
The Tigers count sophomore Allison Harvey as the 11th-toughest player in the nation to strikeout, entering the week, with Harvey fanning just three times while starting all 33 games this season. Rookie Mackenzie Meyer leads four Tigers hitting above .300 with Princeton hitting .262 as a team. Freshman Allie Reynolds (6-12, 5.08) and senior Ashley LaGuardia (3-8, 7.61) have started all the Ivy League games in the circle.
Penn hits .291 as a team with Jurie Joyner (.327) leading the Quakers with 27 RBIs, 33 hits and 10 doubles. All five arms on the Penn staff have thrown between 19 2/3 and 69 innings with Mason Spichiger (4-7, 3.96), Abigail Abramson (5-6, 4.23) and Jennifer Brann (3-4, 4.70) all throwing at least 50 innings.
Penn will wrap its regular season with the Princeton series, while the Tigers will host Cornell May 5-6.
