Princeton Wraps Up Home Portion of 2018 Schedule Against Yale This Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers (10-20, 7-8 Ivy) finish the home portion of the 2018 schedule this weekend against the Ivy League leading Yale Bulldogs (17-17, 11-4 Ivy).
The two foes will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. with one game Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs sit at the top of the Ivy standings (11-4), followed by Harvard (9-6), Columbia (9-6) and Dartmouth (6-5-1). Princeton is fifth with Penn (6-8-1), Cornell (4-8) and Brown (4-11) behind the Tigers.
What Did You Miss?
- The Harvard Crimson (18-17, 8-6 Ivy) earned a doubleheader sweep over the Princeton Tigers (10-19, 7-7 Ivy) at Clarke Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Crimson picked up a 5-1 decision in game one and 13-6 in game two.
- In game one on Tuesday, Chris Davis led the team with two hits while Conor Nolan stole a base. The Princeton pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts in the loss.
- In game two, Jesper Horsted and Asher Lee-Tyson each had two hits to pace Princeton's offense. Nolan, Jack Anderson and Keith Gabrielson combined for seven strikeouts.
- The Crimson defeated the Tigers, 8-3, on Wednesday.
- Ramzi Haddad and Jesper Horsted led the Tigers with two hits each. Ryan Smith struck out eight hitters in his four innings of work, earning a no decision in the loss.
- Horsted is currently on an eight-game hitting streak with four multi-hit games in that stretch. He leads the team in hitting at (.321). After an 0-16 stretch (Mar. 9-17) at plate, the outfielder has 10 multi-hit outings and has raised his average 159 points.
- Six different players are hitting at least .250 in Horsted, Lee-Tyson, Nolan, Davis, Taylor Beckett and Haddad.
- Nolan leads the squad in slugging percentage (.416) and steals (six) while sitting second in RBI (18) and walks (16).
- Davis leads the team in runs (23) and has 12 walks and three stolen bases.
- The Princeton pitching staff is averaging 8.25 strikeouts per nine innings.
- Gross has allowed three earned runs or less in five of his last six starts and has struck out at least seven hitters in his last four outings.
- Smtih has pitched at least five innings in five of his last six starts.
- Eli Kimbell has been one of the best relief pitchers in the conference with a 2.16 ERA in nine appearances. He has 28 strikeouts in 25 innings while opponents are hitting just .207 against him.
- The Tigers had three alums make the Big League last season in Matt Bowman '14, Danny Barnes and Chris Young '02.
- Bowman finished his second year with the St. Louis Cardinals with another sub-4.00 ERA (3.99). He was tied for seventh in all of baseball with 75 appearances, adding three wins, two saves and 46 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings of work.
- Barnes completed his first full season with the Blue Jays, posting a 3.55 ERA in 60 outings of the bullpen. He had 62 strikeouts in 66 innings, earned three victories and finished 13 games for the Blue Jays.
- Seven other alums, Ross Ohlendorf '05 (Japan), David Hale '11 (AAA), Jack Murphy (AAA), Mike Ford '14 (AAA), Alec Keller '14 (AA), Cameron Mingo '16 (A) and Danny Hoy '16 (A), played professional baseball last season.
- This year, Barnes has not allowed an earned run in 12 of his 14 appearances this season.
- David Hale was picked up by the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.
- Yale is 17-17 overall and 11-4 in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs have wins over Virginia, Davidson, Monmouth, Columbia, Brown, Fairfield, Cornell, Sacred Heart, Harvard, Iona and Dartmouth.
- Simon Whiteman leads the team in hitting (.326). He also has 27 runs, 25 RBI and eight stolen bases.
- The Bulldogs have four players with at least 22 RBI, led by Griffin Dey's 30. Dey has 12 extra-base hits and has .508 slugging percentage.
- Yale has two starting pitchers with an ERA under 3.45 in Eric Brodkowitz (3.02) and Scott Politz (3.39).
