Heavyweight 2V Caps Perfect Season, But Brown Claims Content Cup
April 28, 2018 | Heavyweight Rowing
The seventh-ranked Princeton heavyweights took four of five races Saturday morning during their home finale on Lake Carnegie, and the Tiger 2V capped a perfect regular season with an impressive victory, but fourth-ranked Brown claimed the Content Cup with a tight win over Princeton in the 1V race.
Princeton won each of the first four races, a stretch that concluded with a 5.8-second win in the 2V showdown. That victory improved the boat to 10-0 and likely clinches a Top-2 seed (along with Northeastern) for Eastern Sprints, which will be held in two weeks in Worcester, Mass.
"The race today was aggressive and maturely executed," junior Jim Palmer said. "It's great to head into the postseason undefeated, but today we were really pulling for the senior in the boat, Tim Livingstone. The wisdom and strength he brings to the crew is really invaluable. It's like having the love-child of Albus Dumbledore and a silverback gorilla in 4-seat."
"It's been really inspiring to see the boat's progress over the course of the season, especially with four freshmen in the boat," Palmer added. "What's more, I think there is speed to be gained coming into Sprints. We're going to focus a lot on being more unified around the ends of the stroke. Right now, we're like a middle school improv band; we're basically playing the same thing, but a little bit ragged. By Sprints we're hoping to be as finely tuned as the Moscow Philharmonic."
Princeton honored 12 seniors following the meet, their final one on Lake Carnegie: Jan Bernhard, Will Chance, Tom George, Julian Goldman, John Killeen, Ben Lawton, Fabian Lindfield Roberts, Tim Livingstone, Jonathan Lord, Nina Sola, Leo Toch, and captain Augustin Wambersie.

The same holds true for all Princeton boats; both the 3V and 4V will likely have Top-2 seeds after victories over Brown, while the 1V is likely to be either a fourth or fifth seed. The Tigers challenged the nation's fourth-ranked boat, but Brown was able to gain an edge around the middle point of the race and hold that advantage to the line. As it did against Harvard two weeks earlier, Princeton maintained contact throughout, but could never grab a late advantage. The Content Cup is on the line in 10 minutes, but congrats to the Princeton 2V, which capped a perfect 2018 regular season with a strong effort over Brown. pic.twitter.com/5KWp9MalsE
