No. 5 Princeton Rolls By Monmouth, 4-1
September 14, 2018 | Field Hockey
Princeton held a 20-8 shot advantage and 7-2 lead in corners. Sophia Tornetta led the squad with six attempts while four other players had at least two shots. Grace Baylis made two saves in the win.
The Tigers earned two corners in the first three minutes of the contest, but did not get a shot on the cage. It wasn't until the fourth corner try where Princeton got one by Monmouth goalie Gabi Millan. After Maddie Bacskai blasted it, the loose ball came to Elise Wong, who slid it by Millan for her first goal of the season and third career tally.

The best chance for the Tigers to add on in the first half came with 8:40 remaining. A long pass from Gabby Andretta found the stick of Clara Roth, but Millian blocked the shot. Monmouth was looking to get on the board with five minutes to go, but Baylis came out of the cage and denied the pass on the 1v1 opportunity.
In the second half, Monmouth produced an opportunity off a corner attempt, but Baylis stretched out to deny the goal.

Monmouth responded just over a minute later. Ireen Frenken sent a far pass to Natalie McNamara in open space and she got it through for her third tally of the year. Later in the contest, the Hawks picked up some momentum with three consecutive shots, but two were blocked and one was high.
As the clock ticked under seven minutes, Sophia Tornetta thought she had a tally as she shielded a defender with her body and turned around with a quick attempt that was off the post. Not long after, Emma Street went between her legs with a pass to Tornetta, who rocketed it in.
