Nine Princetonians Head To World Champs; Eble, Reelick Share Local Memories After Carnegie Training
September 06, 2018 | Heavyweight Rowing, Women's Rowing - Open, Women's Rowing - Lightweight
Nine former Princetonians have made their way to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, to compete in the 2018 World Rowing Championships, which begin this Sunday and last through Sunday, Sept. 16. If everything falls right, five of those Tigers could square off in four different boats during the M8+ grand final.
Six members of the Princeton heavyweights made their respective national teams, including Americans Patrick Eble '16, Nick Mead '17, and Glenn Ochal '08. Both Eble and Ochal will compete in the M8+, while Mead will race in the M4-. That trio all trained on Lake Carnegie during their final preparation for Senior Worlds; check out the interview below with Eble, who shared fond memories from his time on Lake Carnegie.
Three Princeton women will also be competing for Team USA next week. Margaret Bertasi '14 and Michaela Copenhaver '11 (formerly Glaezer) are teammates in the LW4x. Copenhaver recently shared her journey to Bulgaria — a path that included leaving the sport, and then nearly leading the Tiger lightweight women to the 2011 national championship.
Erin Reelick '16 will compete for the USA W4-, and like the American male trio above, she also trained on Lake Carnegie during her final days before Bulgaria. She also shared some recollections about Princeton, especially on the impact of head coach Lori Dauphiny.

If Eble and Ochal reach the Sept. 16 grand final, they could find plenty of fellow Tigers in the race. Martin Barakso '16 will race in the Canadian M8+, while Tom George '18 is set to compete in the British M8+.
