Princeton kick started the 2018 women's cross country season with a second-place finish at the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday morning in Van Cortlandt Park.
"Historic Van Cortlandt Park offers an ideal backdrop to open the season," head coach Brad Hunt said. "Our great depth was on display today, as Sierra Castaneda, Laura Hergenrother, Erin Endres and Mim Buscher gained valuable racing experience while Anna Jurew, Madeleine Sumner and Marie-Fee Breyer are building a strong fall foundation with an eye towards track. The entire group did a great job of treating the first half of the race like a workout while focusing on having the best last mile of any team in the field. We have had a great preseason and it is evident we are a talented bunch with loads of potential."
Princeton earned a score of 65 with an average race time of 19:13.85 during the 5k race.
All seven runners finished in the top 30 led by sophomore Sierra Castaneda. She clocked 19:01.27 to take ninth place with senior Laura Hergenrother just behind her in 10th with a time of 19:04.77. Sophomore Erin Endres was 13th at 19:11.20, while junior Madeleine Sumner was 15th with a time of 19:23.98. Rounding out the scoring was senior Mim Buscher at 19:28.03 to place 18th. Senior middle distance expert Anna Jurew put up a 19:42.83 to take 20th and senior Marie-Fee Breyer close with a 20:19.76 for 27th.
