Princeton Builds On Trinity Win, Opens Ivy Season With Sweep Of Brown
January 12, 2019 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team wanted to avoid a letdown following Thursday's emotional win over #2 Trinity, and the Tigers took care of business Saturday in their Ivy League opener against Brown. Princeton won 27 of 28 individual games and cruised to the 9-0 road win.
It wasn't the perfect start for Princeton against a Brown squad seeking the upset, but the Tigers shifted in high gear quickly enough to improve to 8-0 on the season.
"Brown came out strong and we seemed to be a bit sluggish in the first games across the board," head coach Gail Ramsay said. "Emme Leonard dropped the first game but started to hit with more accuracy and was able to win the next three games."
While Leonard overcame her 11-8 loss with a strong finish, several Tigers took care of their matches in quick fashion. Junior Morgan Steelman, one of the heroes of the 5-4 win over Trinity, dropped only six points in her win at #8, while sophomore Raneem El-Torky lost only eight points to win at #2.
Princeton expects a highly competitive match Sunday at noon when it heads to New Haven to take on Yale.
