Battle of Top-10 Teams Goes to Cornell, 3-1
November 02, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
They'll see each other again in about a month, but a battle of unbeaten national top-10 teams went to Cornell Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, 3-1.
Princeton and Cornell are two of the three ECAC Hockey teams in the national top 10, with Cornell third in the USCHO poll, Clarkson fifth and Princeton sixth. In the USA Hockey poll, it's Cornell third, Princeton fifth and Clarkson sixth.Â
All of Saturday's scoring came in the second period. Cornell got two goals within a span of less than two minutes from Maddie Mills and Amy Curlew, and Princeton answered when Carly Bullock picked off the puck near the Tigers' blue line and took it forward, rifling a shot past Cornell netminder Lindsay Browning from near the faceoff dot to Browning's right for her team-best sixth goal of the season.
Â
But, the Tigers got no closer. Cornell added a goal a little more than two minutes after Bullock halved the deficit, and the Big Red kept the Tigers off the board for the final 23-plus minutes to stay unbeaten and hand Princeton its first loss of the season.
The return trip will come when the Big Red visit Baker Rink on Dec. 6 with three ECAC weekends in between. The first of those will come next Friday and Saturday when Harvard and Dartmouth come to Baker.Â
