Glory Wins Midlands Title, Princeton's Third in Two Years
December 30, 2019 | Wrestling
Heading into the 2018 Midlands Championships, Princeton's wrestling program did not have a champion at the decades-old event. Now, Princeton has three, with sophomore Patrick Glory having added his name to a list that began with Patrick Brucki and Matthew Kolodzik a year ago.
Glory swept through five bouts at the tournament, winning three by fall or technical fall and allowing zero points in four of the five. That run culminated for the Intermat No. 3-ranked wrestler with a 4-0 win over Northwestern's 10th-ranked Michael DeAugustino.
Glory finished third a year ago as a freshman, the standing that third-ranked junior Brucki at 197 and fifth-ranked sophomore Quincy Monday at 157 earned Monday night with wins over ninth-ranked Kendall Coleman of Purdue and second-ranked Jacob Warner of Iowa, respectively. Brucki's win over Warner flipped the result of the Dec. 8 dual-match outcome that saw Warner win 5-4 at the buzzer.
Princeton matched its fifth-place team finish from a year ago, collecting 84.5 points to finish behind only Iowa (196.5), Northern Iowa (101), Wisconsin (93) and Illinois (91.5) in the 37-team field.
