December 08, 2019 | Wrestling
Wins over by Intermat ninth-ranked Quincy Monday at 157 and unranked Travis Stefanik at 184 over higher-ranked opponents, along with a win from fourth-ranked Patrick Glory at 125, highlighted a visit from No. 1 Iowa as the 12th-ranked Tigers battled the Hawkeyes to a 30-9 defeat Sunday in Jadwin Gym.
Princeton opened with the 9-4 win by Glory over Iowa's Aaron Cashman as Glory stayed perfect on the season at 7-0 and followed up his win Friday night against Oklahoma State's third-ranked Nick Piccininni.
Iowa took the matches at 133, 141 and 149 to pick up 12 points, including three in the match at 149 between third-ranked Pat Lugo of Iowa and Princeton's 14th-ranked Mike D'Angelo, which went to a second overtime before Lugo prevailed 3-2.
Below, sights and sounds from Sunday's meet:
Monday followed that with the first of two Tiger upsets by the rankings, getting past fourth-ranked Kaleb Young 3-2 at 157. It was the third top-10 opponent Monday has defeated in his last three matches, beginning with a win over Lehigh's then-seventh ranked Josh Humphreys on Nov. 3 at the Princeton Open before another win over then-10th ranked Humphreys in Princeton's dual-match win over Lehigh on Nov. 23.
Iowa added 11 points with wins at 165 and 174 before Stefanik defeated Iowa's 10th-ranked Nelson Brands 7-6 at 184. That win completed a weekend sweep for Stefanik, who defeated unranked Anthony Montalvo of Oklahoma State in Friday's dual.
Iowa closed the meet with a win at heavyweight after a national top-three matchup at 197 that saw the Hawkeyes' third-ranked Jacob Warner get a win with a takedown in the closing seconds against Princeton's second-ranked Patrick Brucki.
The Tigers will return to competition with a visit from Rider, currently ranked 20th in the nation, on Dec. 19 in Dillon Gym.
