Boone's Career Day Pushes Princeton Past Georgetown

ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Princeton Tigers scored five times in the first two innings en route to a 10-6 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas at Shirley Povich Field on Friday afternoon.

Jake Boone produced a career-high four RBI while Chris Davis had three hits at the top of the order. Nadir Lewis and Boone also hit their first collegiate home runs in the win. Ryan Smith pitched into the sixth inning to earn the victory and Eric Hoefer earned the save.

Two fielding errors helped the Tigers get on the board with two runs in the first frame. In the second, Boone lofted a three-run blast to left field, giving Princeton a 5-0 advantage. Georgetown's Eddie McCabe started the scoring for the home team with an RBI knock in the third inning before a sacrifice fly.

Lewis' four-bagger gave the Tigers breathing room in the fifth before the Hoyas collected two more tallies in their half of the frame. Will Salomon got the game within one on a solo shot in the sixth. The two units exchanged runs in the eighth stanza.

In final plate appearance for Princeton, Boone contributed his fourth RBI on a fielders' choice before run-producing singles from Taylor Beckett and Brian Kregel pushed the Tigers ahead by four, 10-6.

Hoefer, working into his fourth inning of relief, allowed just one base runner in the bottom of the ninth on an error to punctuate the Tigers' second win of the year.

Princeton and Georgetown play a doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 15) beginning at 1 p.m.
