UPDATED: Tigers, Yale to Meet Saturday, Sunday at '95 as Ivy Season Begins
March 21, 2019 | Softball
TIME CHANGE: Due to field conditions, Saturday is now a single game at 3 p.m. and Sunday is a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader.
The Ivy League softball season will be here Saturday for the Princeton softball team, which will host Yale for one Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday for two at 12:30. All games will be played at the Class of 1895 Field on campus and admission is free.
The games will be streamed on ESPN+ (Game 1 | Game 2 | Game 3), and live stats will be available here.
A pair of upperclassmen, senior Kaylee Grant (.342) and junior Megan Donahey (.341) are pacing the Tigers at the plate, while underclassmen sophomore Allie Reynolds (35 1/3 IP) and rookie Ali Blanchard (29 2/3 IP) have worked most of the innings in the circle.
The Tigers swept Yale in a three-game series last year in New Haven, the first year under the Ivy's new three-game weekend schedule. Princeton has won eight in a row against the Bulldogs, with Yale's last win over Princeton coming in 2014 in New Haven and and the last win for the Bulldogs in Princeton was in 2013.
For the Bulldogs, sophomore Sydney Grobman leads the team at the plate with 22 hits, a .386 average and three home runs, all team-bests. Grobman is one of five Yale regulars hitting better than .300 so far on the season. Senior Terra Jerpbak, sister of Tiger alum Skye Jerpbak '16, has thrown 47 2/3 of the Bulldogs' 126 1/3 innings and has just a 1.76 ERA. Rookie Nic Conway has thrown 48 innings and has a 2.19 ERA. Yale has already begun its Ivy season, hosting Penn last weekend and taking two of three from the Quakers.
The Yale weekend is the first of seven league weekends for the Tigers and the first three of an eight-game homestand that will include a visit from Columbia next weekend and a non-league doubleheader against Rider on April 3. Following two weekends on the road at Brown and Penn, the Tigers' remaining five regular-season home games will come between April 17 and 21 with a non-league pair against Lehigh on April 17 and a visit from Harvard that weekend.
