Dartmouth Sweeps Princeton in Doubleheader

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Dartmouth swept Princeton in a doubleheader to open the Ivy League season this afternoon at Bainton Field at Rutgers. The Big Green grabbed 23-3 win in Game 1 and came from behind to win Game 2 in the ninth inning, 10-8.
Game 1
The Big Green opened with a three-run first inning and tacked on two more in the second and third to take a 6-0 lead. Princeton cut into the deficit with two runs in the third to make it 6-2.
Ramzi Haddad hit a double and advanced to third on a ground out by Eric Marasheski. Chris Davis' single brought Hadded to score. Jake Boone rocketed a single to bring Davis to third and then scored on fielder's choice.
Dartmouth put the game out of reach with a 8-run fourth and finished with 21 hits including two home runs, six double and two triples.
Davis was responsible for Princeton's third run in the ninth, hitting a double to bring in Sy Snedeker.
Game 2
Down one, Dartmouth came up big when it mattered, scoring five runs in the top of the ninth inning to earn a 10-8 win over Princeton in Game 2 of a doubleheader.
Princeton took a 2-1 lead after the first inning. Dartmouth scored three in the top of the second but Princeton responded to tie the game in the third and had the go-ahead run in the fourth. Princeton maintained the 6-5 lead through the next three innings.
The Tigers were just one out away from the win with two men on when Dartmouth's Nate Ostmo hit a single to start a rally. Ubaldo Lopez doubled on the next at bar to bring in three runs and Trevor Johnson homered to add two more runs. Eric Hoefer was able to end the inning striking out the final batter looking.
Princeton wouldn't go away without a fight.
Jake Boone singled and advanced to second after Nadir Lewis took a base on balls. They each advanced on a wild pitch. Taylor Beckett grounded out to short stop and brought Boone home and another wild pitch brought Lewis to the plate to make it a 10-8 game but that would be it as Joseph Flynn grounded out for the final out.
Hoefer allowed three hits and struck out three. Starting pitcher Ryan Smith struck out six and allowed four hits in the first five innings.
Boone paced the offense with four hits in his five at bats and scored three runs. Chris Davis and Max West both had two hits with West added three RBIs.
Princeton and Dartmouth meet up again tomorrow in Game 3 at noon back here at Bainton Field.
