March 26, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Following in the path of former teammate Amir Bell '18, senior Myles Stephens competed in the 3x3UÂ National Championship near Minneapolis, the site of the Final Four, at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.
Stephens was one of four Ivy League seniors, along with Cornell's Matt Morgan, Brown's Obi Okolie and Yale's Blake Reynolds, representing the league in the event, which awarded a $1,000 cash prize for every pool-play game won and $100,000 for the winner of the championship game to split. The winning team will also get to compete in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 Open National Championship.
The Ivy Leaguers began play Friday, April 5 with a 21-11 loss against the Big Ten before bouncing back with a 21-18 win over the Big Sky Saturday in which Stephens scored six points. The team's final pool-play game was a 21-19 loss to the Horizon League in which Stephens shared game-high scoring honors with eight points. The Big Ten won the pool at 3-0 and the Big Sky advanced to the bracket round on tiebreakers after the Ivy, Big Sky and Horizon all finished 1-2.
Bell and the 2018 Ivy League seniors made it out of the pool stage and ended their run in the event's quarterfinals.
Stephens ended his career as the 10th-leading scorer in program history at 1,345 points, was a first-team All-Ivy Leaguer for the second time in his career and was a first-time NABC All-District 13 honoree this year, earning second-team recognition.
Stephens finished the season with a 13.6 point-per-game average while shooting .424 from the field and led Princeton at a career-high 6.4 rebounds a game. He was second on the team in blocks, with 19, and third on the team with 23 steals.
During the season, Stephens posted 21 double-figure scoring games and twice reached his season-high scoring total of 21 points, first in the season opener against DeSales and then at Harvard on March 2. Stephens posted a career-high five double-doubles on the season and finished his Tiger career as a .484 shooter from the field and with 1,345 points, becoming the fourth Tiger in the program's all-time top 10 to play for head coach Mitch Henderson.
