Princeton Heads To Philadelphia For Crucial Series With Penn

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers head to Philadelphia, Pa., for a crucial three-game series vs. the Penn Quakers at Meiklejohn Stadium on Friday (Apr. 12) and Saturday (Apr. 13).
With the impending weather, Sunday's game was moved to Friday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Quakers are tied at the top of the Ivy League at 6-3 with Harvard and Columbia. Yale and Brown sit at 5-4 with Dartmouth and Princeton at 3-6. Cornell rounds out of the conference at 2-7.
The Tigers are coming off a 7-2 loss vs. Seton Hall at Clarke Field and are 6-19 overall this season. Princeton has dropped two of three to Dartmouth, Harvard and Columbia. All-time, the Tigers are 160-113-3 against the Quakers. Penn earned two of three at Clarke Field last season.
Despite his nine-game hitting streak coming to a close, Max West still leads the squad in hitting at (.324). He's produced a .324/.419/.432 slash line in 22 games this year. The senior has improved his batting average in each of the past three seasons and is the feature of this week's Beyond The Stripes..
Ryan Smith is one of the best starters for Princeton, posting a 3.72 ERA in 38 2/3 innings along with 44 strikeouts. James Proctor (12.4) and Gnazzo (9.6) are the other weekend starters that have secured over nine strikeouts per nine innings. Trey Ramsey has been one of the Tigers' best relievers (2.16 ERA) in six appearances.
Penn is 17-9 this season, picking up victories over No. 22 Duke, Winthrop, Lafayette, Fairleigh Dickinson, Lehigh, Harvard, Brown, Saint Joseph's and Dartmouth. One of the Quakers' wins over Dartmouth was a 21-15 decision in 21 innings, the longest contest in Ivy League history. The Quakers are second in all of Division-I in batting average (.351). They have seven players, with at least 15 starts, hitting over .300. Mitchell Holcomb is the group's best starting pitcher, securing a 5-0 record and 3.79 ERA in 38 innings.

Jake Boone sits second on the squad in batting average (.315), producing 16 runs and 12 RBI. He is tied for the team-best in stolen bases (four) with Chris Davis (.288/.383/.452). Davis, who has hits in six of his last seven outings, has 12 extra-base knocks, best on the unit. Nadir Lewis has had a wonderful freshman campaign, dropping in a .273 average, a .376 on-base-and a .444 slugging percentage.
