Box Score

The lone game on the Ivy League slate Friday sent Princeton to Penn, and by the end of the afternoon, it sent Princeton to first place in the Ivy League.

Princeton entered the day a half-game back of the Quakers in the league standings, but with a 5-2 win, Princeton (7-3) is now a half-game up on Columbia (6-3), Harvard (6-3) and Penn (8-5) with teams anywhere from nine to 13 games into the 21-game league season.

The teams will continue their series Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. doubleheader scheduled early to avoid forecasted rain. Live stats and video links are available on the schedule page.

Allie Reynolds got the win for the Tigers with a complete-game effort, giving up eight hits and walking two while striking out three. Penn left seven runners on base, including leaving the bases full in the third inning as Princeton was able to keep a 3-1 lead with the Quakers pushing just one run across in the frame.

Princeton got on the board with a second-inning two-run homer from Kaitlyn Waslawski after Alex Colón was hit by a pitch. The lead grew to 3-0 when Keeley Walsh followed a two-out walk to Allison Harvey with a single, and after Penn scored in its half of the inning to make it 3-1, Princeton used a leadoff Kaylee Grant single in the fifth and a Mackenzie Meyer base hit three batters later to make it 4-1.

The teams traded runs in the seventh, with Princeton getting a Grant leadoff walk and a Meyer two-out base hit to score a run before Penn had a leadoff homer from Corrie Phillips before leaving two runners on to end the game.

Meyer and Waslawski each had two hits and each drove in two runs to help the Tigers' take the series opener.
