Princeton's Seven-Run Frame Helps Secure Doubleheader Split At Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The Princeton Tigers' seven-run second inning in game two of the doubleheader against the Penn Quakers helped them secure a split on Saturday afternoon at Meiklejohn Stadium.
Penn 1, Princeton 0
Max West just missed a home run with a two-out double off the left field wall in the fifth frame, but he was left stranded after a strikeout.
The Quakers had at least one runner in scoring position in the third, fourth and sixth innings, but James Proctor got out of each jam. A sacrifice fly provided the Quakers with their lone run in the eighth.
In the ninth inning, Nadir Lewis led off with a single and moved to second base after a walk to Conor Nolan. Following a strikeout, West lofted a long fly ball to center, but the centerfielder made the catch to give Penn the victory.
Proctor earned his third career complete game in a tough luck loss, going eight frames, scattering five hits and contributing five strikeouts. Penn's Christian Scafidi pitched into the ninth stanza, earning 11 strikeouts in the win. Kevin Eaise picked up the save.

Princeton improved to 7-21 overall and 4-8 in the Ivy League while Penn fell to 19-10 this season and 8-4 in the conference. The Tigers host Rider at Clarke Field on Wednesday (Apr. 17). First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

An RBI hit to center from Nolan nabbed the seventh run of the inning. The Quakers countered with two runs in the next half stanza. After the Quakers' brief rally, Andrew Gnazzo retired 12 of the next 15 Penn hitters.
