Heavyweights Look To End Harvard's Two-Year Compton Cup Run at Lake Carnegie Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 7 nationally ranked Princeton Tigers are set for another Compton Cup contest against the Harvard Crimson at Lake Carnegie this Saturday (Apr. 20).
Last week, Princeton retained the Childs Cup for the 10th straight year. The varsity eight opened its Ivy League season by taking the Childs Cup race in 5:34.5, while Penn finished second in 5:38.9 and Columbia took third in 5:41.7. The 2V and 3V also stayed perfect with strong wins; the 2V left the field and defeated Columbia by 12.3 seconds, while the Princeton 3V edged the 4V by .3 of a second, and both defeated Columbia by more than 35 seconds. It was the 25th time in the last 26 seasons that the Tigers earned the prestigious Childs Cup.
Harvard leads the all-time series against Princeton, 64-16, earning the last two Compton Cups. This rivalry started in 1933 with two squads meeting every year since 1948. The Tigers' last wins in the series were in 2015 and 2016.
After the Compton Cup, the Tigers go for the Carnegie Cup against Yale and Cornell in New Haven, Conn. Princeton has placed second in that Cup in each of the past five races.
