Princeton Battles Villanova On The Road Wednesday

PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton makes the trip to the Main Line for a non-conference tilt vs. the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday (Apr. 24). First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
The Tigers are in the midst of their best stretch of the season, winning four of five including a series victory over the Cornell Big Red last weekend. Princeton won against Penn before defeating Rider, 11-0, at Clarke Field. The Tigers then earned wins in game one and three of their set with the Big Red. During this streak, Taylor Beckett has produced a .429/.478/.619 slash line. He's scored seven runs and secured 13 total bases.
Max West's senior season has been outstanding as he nabbed hits in 15 of his last 17 games, sitting with a .330 average, adding 21 RBI and 17 walks. Jake Boone is also hitting over .300 (.302) and is tied for second on the squad in total bases (53). Beckett has raised his batting average 41 points over the previous week, contributing three multi-hit games.
Ryan Smith leads the pitching staff in strikeouts (53), but James Proctor has a staff-best 11.2 strikeouts per nine. Trey Ramsey has been one of the best relievers for the Tigers with a 2.38 ERA in eight outings. Reece Rabin started vs. Rider last Wednesday and threw five shutout innings in the victory.
Villanova is 10-26 this season, picking up wins over St. Bonaventure, Northeastern, Central Michigan, LaSalle, Penn, Seton Hall, St. Joe's, Georgetown and St. John's. Nick Lorusso has been the squad's best hitter at .320.
Princeton welcomes Brown to Clarke Field this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 27) beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sunday's matchup has a first pitch at 12 p.m. It's Student Day on Saturday with a pregame tailgate before game two. There will be free hot dogs and cookies for the first 50 students along with games and activities.
