No. 15 Princeton Looks For CWPA Championships Crown This Weekend

CWPA Championships Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 15 Princeton Tigers begin the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships with a first round matchup vs. the Saint Francis Red Flashes on Friday (Apr. 26) at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
No. 6 Michigan will be the No. 1 seed, followed by Princeton, Bucknell, Harvard, Brown, George Washington and Saint Francis. The winner of the Princeton and Saint Francis battle will take on the winner of Bucknell and George Washington on Apr. 27 at 1 p.m. The Championship game is on Sunday (Apr. 28) at 12 p.m.
Since going 2-2 at the Loyola Marymount Invitational, Princeton has won six of eight games to finish the regular season including three victories over ranked foes. For the season, the Tigers are 19-8 overall and finished 5-1 in the CWPA. Head coach Derek Ellingson's group has secured seven wins over ranked opponents so far.
Saint Francis is 9-24 and went 0-6 in the CWPA. Princeton defeated the Red Flashes earlier this month, 15-5. The Tigers put the stamp on a decisive victory with six straight goals in the fourth stanza and held the Red Flashes without a tally for the final 9:25.
Amy Castellano has produced one of the greatest seasons in program history, securing 71 goals, 37 assists, adding 44 steals, 16 drawn ejections and 16 sprint victories. Her 71 goals are ninth for a single-season and more than double her total from her first two campaigns.
Laura Larkin is second on the squad in goals (42) while Eliza Britt (39) and Lindsey Kelleher (37) are right behind her. Kelleher's 45 helpers are tied for fifth in a single-season while her 172 assists are the second most ever. Five other players have registered at least 10 goals. Britt is the only Tiger with at least 20 goals (39), 20 assists (29), 21 steals (20) and 20 drawn ejections (23). Marissa Webb has secured 13 wins and a .546 save percentage in goal for Princeton.
The top 20 in the most recent CWPA Varsity poll did not change from the previous week. Stanford, USC, UCLA, Cal and Hawaii remain as the top five schools. Michigan is the top CWPA squad at No. 6.
All games this weekend will be streamed through the CWPA ($). Princeton's last conference title was in 2015.
