Seton Hall Makes Trip To Clarke Field Wednesday

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers welcome the Seton Hall Pirates to Clarke Field for a midweek non-conference tilt Wednesday (Apr. 10) at 3 p.m.
Princeton is 6-18 this season and 3-6 in Ivy League play. The Tigers dropped two of three to Columbia over the previous weekend at Clarke Field. Trailing 6-2 in the eighth inning in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday, Princeton scored six times to earn the victory. On Sunday, Andrew Gnazzo threw his first career complete game, but the Lions held on for a 2-1 win and series victory. Princeton 21-40-1 all-time against Seton Hall. The Pirates have won the last two meetings against the Tigers.
Currently on a nine-game hitting streak, Max West leads the team in hitting at .343 and RBI (16). The senior catcher has raised his batting average each of the past three seasons. Jake Boone is also hitting over .300 (.317), securing 16 runs and 12 RBI. Nadir Lewis has had an impressive freshman campaign, pacing the offense in slugging (.463) and walks (17), adding 11 extra-base hits and a team-best 19 runs.
Ryan Smith is one of the best starters for Princeton, dropping in a 3.72 ERA in 38 2/3 innings along with 44 strikeouts. James Proctor (12.4) and Gnazzo (9.6) are the other weekend starters that have secured over nine strikeouts per nine innings. Trey Ramsey has been one of the Tigers' best relievers (2.84 ERA) in five appearances.
Seton Hall is 13-14 this season with wins over Virginia, Bucknell, Harvard, Wagner, Monmouth, NJIT, Fairleigh Dickinson, Iona and Villanova. Christian Del Castillo has had an outstanding season, posting a .322/.377/.611 slash line. Three other players sport a .300 average (Steve Grober, Jerry Huntzinger, Matt Toke). Casey Dana also has had a great year, leading the team in slugging (.462), walks (21) and on-base percentage (.419). David Festa has been among the Pirates' best pitchers, contributing a 2.25 ERA in 28 frames with 37 punchouts.
After the Seton Hall matchup, Princeton travels to Philadelphia to take on Penn (Apr. 13-14). The Quakers are 17-8 and 6-3 in the Ivy League, tied for first place with Harvard and Columbia.
