Heavyweights Set For 2019 IRA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The 2019 IRA National Championships will get underway this weekend at the Sacramento State Aquatics Center and Lake Natoma for the No. 6 Princeton men's heavyweight squad.
The IRA National Championships take place May 31st-June 2. The preliminaries will take place on Friday with the semifinals on Saturday and Finals on Sunday. Live stat and video links can be found below …
2019 IRA CHAMPIONSHIPS LINKS
At Eastern Sprints two weeks ago, the heavyweights had each boat reach the Grand Finals, securing three medals. The 3V and 4V nabbed silver medals while 2V earned bronze. The Tigers finished third in the Rowe Cup standings and sixth in the Jope Cup.
Princeton opened up the 2019 season with a decisive victory over Georgetown before retaining the Navy-Princeton Rowing Cup, one of the oldest trophies in the sport, with a win over Navy. The heavies began Ivy action with another Childs Cup decision over Columbia before losses to Harvard (7.5 seconds) and Yale (4.7 seconds). Princeton finished the regular season by regaining the Content Cup over then No. 5 Brown before Sprints.
After a stretch of three straight years of 10th or lower (2008-10), the V8 have gone eight straight seasons with at least a seventh-place finish at the IRAs. The Tigers were fifth in 2018, fourth in 2017 and collected back-to-back bronze medals in 2015-16. The 2V medaled each year from 2014-17 while the 3V picked up gold in 2016. The Yale Bulldogs have won the last two Varsity Cups at IRAs.
The V8 group's first heat features California, Dartmouth, Stanford, FIT and Hobart at 8:40 a.m., PST (11:40 a.m. EST) on Friday. The semifinals on Saturday will either be at 8:36 a.m., PST (11:36 EST) or 8:48 a.m. (11:48 EST). The Grand Final is on Sunday at 11:12 a.m., PST (2:12 p.m. EST).
The 2V's heat on Friday (9:50 a.m. PST, 12:50 p.m. EST) has Brown, Cornell, George Washington, Stanford and UC-San Diego. The semifinals on Saturday start at 9:00 a.m. PST (12 p.m. EST) and 9:12 a.m. (12:12 p.m. EST). The Grand Final on Sunday at 10:24 a.m. PST (1:24 p.m. EST).
3V8's IRA Championship get started on Friday at 10:30 a.m. PST (1:30 p.m. EST) in a heat with Syracuse, Brown, George Washington and UC-San Diego. The semifinals on Saturday are set for 9:24 a.m. PST (12:24 p.m. EST) and 9:36 a.m. PST (12:36 p.m. EST). Sunday's Grand Final is at 10:08 a.m. PST (1:08 p.m. EST).
V4's heat on Friday is at 11:20 a.m. PST (2:20 p.m. EST) with Marist, Boston U., Drexel and Syracuse. The semifinals are on Saturday and get underway at 10:30 a.m. PST (1:30 p.m. EST). The Grand Final is 9:14 a.m. PST on Sunday (12:14 p.m. EST).
