"It's been really good for the team to get back into the swing of training without being interrupted by racing," said Lauren Sanchez. "Ending on such a good note from Sprints was really motivating going into training for the IRAs."
The Tigers opened up the 2019 season with a close loss to No. 1 Stanford (3 seconds). Princeton followed with a 10-second win over Radcliffe before a second-place finish at the Knecht Cup. Head coach Paul Rassam's team finished the regular season with a victory over Georgetown before winning the Eastern Sprints for the first time since 2011.
"I'm so incredibly proud of this squad," said Rassam about the Eastern Sprints' victory. "We've had some adversity over the past week and people had to really step up. I've been so impressed with all boats because they showed real strength and character."
Princeton has medaled each of the past two seasons, placing third in 2017 and 2018. The finish marked only the second time in a decade that Princeton earned V8 medals at back-to-back IRA Championships (2010-11 was the first). The Tigers have now medaled at three of the last four IRAs, something that hasn't happened in more than a decade.
