Women's Lightweight Team Races For Grand Final Lanes At IRAs
June 01, 2019 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The women's lightweight rowing squad raced for lanes on Saturday afternoon during day two of the IRA National Championships.
The V8 team (6:34.74) placed second in its heat behind Stanford (6:29.23) and will race in lane two during the Grand Final on Sunday (10:40 a.m., PST, 1:40 p.m. PST). Stanford is the only boat to have defeated Princeton this season.
Princeton's V4 squad took the sixth position in its preliminary (7:42.98) and will be in lane six for the Grand Final (8:42 a.m., PST, 11:42 a.m. EST). The doubles group (7:50.60) was third and thus will be in lane three for its' Grand Final (8:00 a.m., PST, 11:00 a.m., EST).
After the racing on Saturday, the Princeton boathouse became the only boathouse in the nation to have each boat make the Grand Final at the IRAs.
Head coach Paul Rassam's unit has medaled each of the past two seasons, placing third in 2017 and 2018. The finish marked only the second time in a decade that Princeton earned V8 medals at back-to-back IRA Championships (2010-11 was the first). The Tigers have now medaled at three of the last four IRAs, something that hasn't happened in more than a decade.
