Princeton Finishes Regular Season At Yale

PRINCETON, N.J. – The 2019 season comes to a conclusion for the Princeton Tigers with a three-game series at Yale this weekend (May 11-12).
The two will play a doubleheader at Yale Field on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. The finale is Sunday (May 12) beginning at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 192-154-4, after taking all three meetings last year.
After starting the season with just six wins in their first 27 games, the Tigers have won eight of their last 11 contests. During this stretch, Max West has recorded a remarkable .512 on-base percentage, hitting .364. Taylor Beckett has also been good for the Tigers, securing a .350/.409/.450 slash line over this streak. Princeton is hitting .272 as a team over the last 11 outings.
West has a produced a stellar senior campaign with a .333/.442/.421 line in 35 games. Jake Boone (.303) has raised his batting average 134 points from last year. Beckett, Chris Davis, Nadir Lewis and Ramzi Haddad are hitting at least .250 for the Tigers. Davis leads the team with 16 extra-base hits while Lewis has a team-best 28 runs and 23 walks.
It's hard to be any better than Ryan Smith has been over his last three starts as he's gone at least eight innings each time out, allowing four runs and contributing 22 strikeouts. For the season, the senior sits with a 5-3 record, 3.10 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 69 2/3 frames. His 71 punchouts are tied for 10th most in a single season and his career total (171) is 10th all-time. James Proctor has punched out 11.8 batters per nine innings while Andrew Gnazzo has 58 strikeouts in 62 1/3 stanzas of work.
Yale is 16-23 overall and 10-8 in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs have nabbed wins over New Mexico State, New Orleans, Stetson, Quinnipiac, Brown, Cornell, Harvard, Penn and Dartmouth. Griffin Dey has been playing at an All-Ivy pace, hitting .366 and slugging .648. He has 43 RBI and 10 home runs to pace the Bulldogs' offense. Yale has stolen 105 bases this season with Simon Whiteman (30) and Mason LaPlante (27) combining for 57. Scott Politz has recorded the lowest ERA among the Bulldogs' starters at 3.32. Kumar Nambiar has been named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week each of the past two weeks.
