No. 7 Tigers Score Early, Late to Draw No. 9 Harvard
January 11, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
Goals from Sharon Frankel and Carly Bullock in the game's first 12 minutes gave the seventh-ranked Princeton women's hockey team a lead, and Maggie Connors' goal in the final minute helped save a tie as the Tigers drew No. 9 Harvard 3-3 in Princeton's last game before the break for first-semester finals.
Princeton enters the break tied atop the ECAC Hockey League standings with Harvard, each with 19 points and one point in front of Cornell.
Frankel opened the scoring just more than two minutes into the game when, on a power play, Bullock collected a wide Connors shot and sent it back across the crease to Connors, who found Frankel near the far post and the early lead.
Princeton pushed the lead to 2-0 with more than eight minutes to go in the period when Sarah Filler and Claire Thompson set passes around the perimeter of the attack to Bullock, who fired from the faceoff dot.
Harvard scored twice in the second to tie it, and a goal just more than five minutes into the third period put the Crimson in front.Â
It stayed 3-2 in Harvard's favor until Princeton put the extra attacker on in the final minute. Thompson found Connors in the faceoff circle to Harvard goalie Lindsay Reed's left, and Connors fired it past a diving Reed to help send it to overtime.
Following the break for first-semester finals, Princeton will return to the ice Jan. 28 at Quinnipiac.
