PRINCETON, N.J. – Maddie Bacskai, a two-time captain, two-time Ivy League Champion and three-time Final Four participant, will graduate this semester.
Â
After graduation, Maddie will be attending Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University next fall where she will also be playing field hockey for the Wildcats.
Â
"I want to thank Maddie for the selflessness, courage, and leadership that she has displayed since stepping foot on campus in the fall of 2016," said head coach Carla Tagliente. "She has been instrumental in our continued success and has been one of the most dominant defenders in NCAA Field Hockey. The past two years have brought many challenges her way, but Maddie has handled the adversity with courage and grace. Congratulations Maddie on graduating from the best University in the country. We wish you all the best in your next chapter at Northwestern and moving forward."Â Â
Â
The former Tiger made an impact the moment she stepped on the field.
Â
Bacskai secured All-Region and First-Team All-Ivy honors as a freshman while Princeton, despite not earning the Ivy title, secured an at-large bid and lost in the NCAA Semifinals to the eventual National Champion Delaware.
Â
2017 was arguably her best season as she collected First-Team All-America honors along with Ivy Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Ivy nominations. In the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers took down No. 5 Virginia before dropping a heartbreaker to No. 4 North Carolina, 3-2, in the quarterfinals.
Â
As a junior, Bacskai nabbed All-Region and a third straight First-Team All-Ivy selection. She earned two game-winners in the NCAA Tournament including one over No. 6 Harvard in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Tigers hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament before dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 2 Maryland in the NCAA Semifinals.
Â
Bacskai missed the 2019 campaign because of an injury but was named captain despite the team knowing she was going to miss the year. The Tigers reached the NCAA Championship game for the first time since 2012.
Â
Congratulations to Maddie and best of luck in the future!
