Ellis Breaks Mile Record on Stellar Day For Men’s Track & Field

BOSTON – Sam Ellis of the Princeton University men's track & field team produced a race for the ages Saturday as he broke a 29-year old school record in the mile at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
Ellis clocked in at 3:57.66 seconds to set a new school record, breaking the previous record of 3:58.70 seconds set by Bill Burke in 1991. Ellis also finished second overall, besting his previous PR of 4:02.93 seconds set at the Valentine Invite in 2019.
Along with the Valentine Invite, the Tigers also competed at the Fasttrack Invite Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
The Tigers also saw several other impressive performances in the mile; Eli Krahn had a season-best of 4:07.81 seconds while Sebastian Fisher won his race by three seconds in a personal best time of 4:09.11 seconds. Connor Nisbet also ran a personal best time of 4:11.19 seconds.
Perrin Hagge finished in a time of 4:15.78 seconds to finish tenth in his section while Drake Anzano clocked in at 4:17.16 seconds and Josh Zelek at 4:14.54 seconds, all delivering highly-competitive races for Princeton.
The 3,00 meters was another bright spot for the Tigers as seven student-athletes recorded personal best times. Conor Lundy recorded a time of 7:58.30 seconds while junior Ed Trippas won his heat in 8:03.61 seconds. Camren Fischer was close behind, finishing seventh in 8:07.44 seconds and Matt Grossman came in ninth in 8:08.29 seconds. Jakob Kintzele took sixth in his heat in 8:09.00 seconds, Kevin Berry seventh in 8:10.14 seconds and Connor Livingston 13th in 8:10.14 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Greg Sholars tied his indoor best of 21.60 while JC Colangelo ran personal bests in the 200 and 400 with times of 21.97 and 49.27.
Despite his shoe falling off mid-race, Michael Phillippy ran a personal best of 48.02. The Tigers also produced a season best in the 4x400; the team of Greg Sholars, Klaudio Gjetja, Andersen Dimon and Phillippy clocked in at 3:14.13 seconds.
In the 800, Ethan Reese won his heat with a season best time of 1:53.28 seconds while Joe Sartini finished seventh in his in 1:54.51 seconds.
At the Fasttrack Invite, Princeton performed strongly in the shot put with C.J. Licata winning the event with a mark of 18.46 meters and Kelton Chastulik came in third after a throw of 17.44 meters.
