Men’s Basketball Clinches Ivy Tournament Berth With 71-49 Win at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Princeton University men's basketball team clinched a berth to the Ivy League Tournament after overcoming Brown University Friday night inside the Pizzitola Sports Center after overcoming the Bears, 71-49.
The Tigers' Ivy League Tournament berth is its third in the four years it has been held.
Sophomore Jaelin Llewellyn continued his superb play, finishing with a game-high 19 points along with six rebounds. He was one of three Tigers to finish in double digits; sophomore Drew Friberg added 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting along with five rebounds and two assists while junior Jerome Desrosiers finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals.
While the Bears opened the game on a 5-0 run, Llewellyn scored six-straight points to give the Tigers an early 6-5 lead as drained a three-pointers with 16:14 and 15:20 on the clock.
A Friberg triple with 14:17 left in the half gave Princeton a 9-7 advantage Brown would retake the lead with 12:54 on the clock, 11-9. A Desrosiers three-pointer with 14:20 left to play led off a 9-0 run for Princeton that featured a Desrosiers free throw, three Friberg free throws and a Friberg layup that helped the Tigers surge ahead 18-11 with 10:48 on the clock.
Freshman Ryan Langborg stepped into a three-pointer with 8:01 remaining in the half that extended Princeton's advantage to 23-14.
A sophomore Ethan Wright layup with 4:51 left in the half sparked a 13-0 Tiger run that also featured a Llewellyn three-pointer, another Wright layup, a pair of Desrosiers three-pointers and a Richmond Aririguzoh layup that resulted in extending Princeton's lead to 38-21 with 2:20 left in the half. Princeton would proceed to take a 40-28 advantage into halftime.
Friberg stayed hot and helped Princeton get off to a strong start in the second half, laying the ball in with 19:22 on the clock and knocking down a three-pointer from the top of the arc with 17:05 remaining to give the Tigers a 45-33 advantage.
Friberg's second three-pointer sparked a 14-0 Tiger run that included an Aririguzoh layup, a Llewellyn layup, a pair of Aririguzoh free throws, another Llewellyn layup along with a three-pointer by Wright that saw Princeton take a 56-33 lead.
Llewellyn would pull down a defensive rebound then go coast-to-coast with 6:41 on the clock, giving Princeton a 60-38 advantage.
Princeton would hold onto its lead for the remainder of the contest, finishing with a final score 71-49.
