Takeaway, Shutout Deliver Princeton Win Over Harvard
October 23, 2021 | Women's Soccer
Tatum Gee jumped on a backward pass in the 78th minute of Saturday's visit to Harvard by the Princeton women's soccer team, arcing it home for what became the only goal of the game in the Tigers' 1-0 win.
"It's hard to put into words how proud I am of this team," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "Today was an incredibly difficult game for us. Harvard was very much on the front foot in the first half and forced us to make some adjustments. They moved the ball comfortably in midfield and pulled our midfield and back line out of shape with intricate movement. Our team fought with everything they had to stay in the half and keep them scoreless. The second half, we were much more disciplined and organized and efficient with the ball. After we found the back of the net, we had to dig even deeper to keep them from equalizing. The entire team gave absolutely everything they had to preserve a tremendous road win against a very well coached and really talented Harvard team."
Fellow senior Grace Barbara made seven saves in the shutout, her fourth solo shutout of the year and the eighth shutout of the year for Princeton. The clean sheet dipped Barbara's GAA on the season back below a goal a game, to 0.97, and lowered Princeton's as a team to 0.78.
The win put Princeton alone in second place in the Ivy, breaking the tie with Harvard that began the day. Brown was a winner over Cornell on Saturday, keeping the Bears atop the league table and three points in front of Princeton heading into the final two weeks. It was also Princeton's 12th win of the season, marking the 13th time in program history that the Tigers have reached a dozen wins in a season and the third time in six competitive seasons under Sean Driscoll that Princeton has won at least 12 games.
Princeton entered the week in the 28th spot on the NCAA RPI list with Harvard 18th as two of the three Ivy teams, along with Brown in the 17th spot, in the top 30 in that metric.
A visit from Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. will be the home regular-season finale on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

?? Have a look at a couple of the big first-half stops from @grace1barbara to keep it even.
