The Princeton field hockey team has a quick turnaround from its tough loss at Harvard Saturday. The Tigers host Monmouth Tuesday on Bedford Field, and there is still a ton on the line as the regular season enters its final three games.

Where things stand
Princeton enters the game at 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League. The remainder of the schedule is the Monmouth game and then a trip to Brown this Saturday followed by a home game against Columbia Nov. 6.

Princeton trails Harvard by a game in the Ivy League standings. To get the league's automatic NCAA bid, Princeton would need to sweep Brown and Columbia and have Harvard lose to both Cornell and Brown.

On the other hand Princeton is ranked 16^th in the current RPI rankings, leaving the team right in the thick of the NCAA at-large conversation. The Tigers have five losses to teams in the top 11, with two of those in overtime (No. 3 Maryland, No. 6 Louisville). Princeton has also beaten No. 5 Penn State, No. 19 Delaware and No. 20 UConn. Monmouth is currently ranked 25^th.

Series history
Princeton and Monmouth have played four times previously, and Princeton has won all four meetings. The most recent meeting between the two was in 2018, when Princeton won 4-1. The third goal of that game was scored by Ali McCarthy and assisted by Hannah Davey, both of whom are still on the team.

Princeton also has defeated Monmouth in 2006 (8-1), 2007 (9-1) and 2014 (4-3 in the only game to date in West Long Branch).

Working overtime
Princeton has played six overtime games this year, including each of its last three. The first five of those games were decided in the first OT period, and the game Saturday at Harvard went to a penalty shootout.

Princeton had never before in program history played six overtime games in one season and had never played three straight overtime games.

Common opponents
Princeton and Monmouth have four common opponents. Both teams have beaten Delaware, in fact by identical 3-2 margins, and both teams have lost to Rutgers (Princeton 3-1, Monmouth 3-2) and Harvard (Princeton 2-1 in a shootout, Monmouth 1-0 in overtime).
