Meyers' Career High Helps Princeton Open Up Season With Victory Over Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – It may have been 613 days between games, but the calling card of the Princeton Tigers remained the same.

The Tigers held the Villanova Wildcats to 15 made baskets and a 26.3 shooting percentage in a 59-42 decision at the Finneran Pavilion.

Villanova ended the first quarter with five of six points to take a 16-10 lead after 10 minutes.

After a field goal from Abby Meyers, Julia Cunningham knocked down back-to-back treys to put Princeton ahead 18-16 with 8:49 left in the first half.

The Tigers never trailed again.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad allowed just four points in the second stanza and expanded its lead to 10, 30-20, at the break.

Grace Stone posted five straight points to begin the second half, but Villanova countered with an 8-0 run to set the score at 35-27 as the clock ticked near six minutes.

Four free throws by Meyers stemmed the rally and pushed the Tigers' lead back to 11. Villanova never got within single digits again.

Meyers scored a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers. She also added a personal-best nine rebounds along with three assists. Cunningham contributed 11 points in the win.

Princeton has won 23 straight game dating back to the 2019-20 season, the longest streak in the NCAA. The Tigers head to Delaware on Friday with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
