November 20, 2021 | Women's Squash
Wins from Raneem El Torky at number two and a sweep of victories from spots five through nine carried third-ranked Princeton to a 6-3 win over No. 5 Virginia on Saturday to open a three-match homestand in Jadwin Gym.
All three matches on the homestand will be against top-12 teams, with No. 12 Williams visiting on Sunday at noon and No. 10 Stanford coming in on Monday at 6 p.m.
Princeton took three of its six wins by sweeps, with Katherine Glaser, Olivia Robinson and Emily Rose all turning in three-game wins at six, seven and eight that took less than a half-hour to make it into Princeton's column. Katherine Sapinski won the last two games of her match at number nine to pick up another win short of 30 minutes, and El Torky's win saw her rally from a tight 12-10 loss in the opening game before winning three straight.
One of the two five-game matches on the day went Princeton's way, with Emme Leonard winning the last two games to take her match at number five and closing it out with an 11-3 win in the fifth game.
None of Virginia's three wins came in sweeps, with Elle Ruggiero at number one and Caroline Spahr at number three each winning a game and Andrea Toth at number four winning two games before Virginia ended up winning on those courts.
