Women’s Track & Field Has Strong Season Opener at Joe Handelman Invite

Princeton, N.J. – The Princeton University women's track and field team put together an impressive showing at the Joe Handelman Invitational inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
The Tigers had four school all-time top-10 performances, three coming in field events.
With a distance of 18.63 meters, Annika Kelly moved into fifth all-time in school history in the weight throw, surpassing Emma Ruggiero's mark of 18.48 meters set at the 2011 Princeton invite.
Also competing in the weight throw was Luisa Chantler Edmond, who finished in second place with a throw of 17.62 meters.
In the high jump, Madeleine Wood leaped 1.70 meters, tied for 10th all-time in school history. Emily Garner finished in second place with a jump of 1.65 meters.
Liliana Cohen traveled a distance 3.60 meters in the pole vault, good for first place in the event and moves her to 10th all-time in school history.
In the 300-meters, Isabella Hilditch crossed the finish line first with a time of 39.67 seconds. Arianna Smith secured third place with a time of 40.70, tied for 10th all-time in school history. Smith bested her PR by 17 seconds.
The Tigers dominated in the 60-meter hurdles and 600-meters, finishing one-two-three in both events. Isabella Hilditch placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.80 seconds, followed by Lily Parris (8.92 seconds) and Arianna Smith (8.97 seconds). Smith bested her PR by nine seconds.
In the 600-meters, it was Maggie Hock who finished first with a time of 1:32.97, while Paola Rodriguez (1:35.11) and Mena Scatchard (1:35.17) finished second and third respectively.
Rounding out the Joe Handelman invitational, Jalah Morris earned first place in the shotput with a throw of 13.19 meters, while Brielle Kelly secured third place with a toss of 12.11 meters.
In the long jump, Olivia Hee leapt a distance of 5.34 meters for first place, while Megan Ogawa finished in second with a jump of 5.28 meters.
Olivia Hee also placed second in the 60-meters, clocking in at 7.76 second.
Up Next: The Princeton University women's track and field team will travel to Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday, January 15th to take on the Navy Midshipmen.
