Amaechi Qualifies for NCAA in Discus for Third Time
May 29, 2021 | Women's Track and Field
RESULTS | DAY TWO RECAP
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Obiageri Amaechi of the Princeton University women's track and field is headed to the NCAA Championships for the third time in her career after finishing in fourth at the NCAA East Regional Saturday at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium.
Amaechi's best throw of 56.54 meters came on her third attempt. Her first throw went 56.25 meters and her second 54.78 meters. Tia Rozario also competed in the triple jump, producing a best jump of 11.68 meters.
"It is amazing what these three women were able to accomplish this season," said Head coach Michelle Eisenreich. "We had no pre-season, Kate and Tia had only three meets while Obi had two, and there was incredible stress associated with virtual learning. All three women did not let these hardships get in their way. Kate improved her seed by three, Obi not only made the finals in Eugene but will be in the top flight and Tia put together a great third jump that was just over the board. This kind of fight and determination is emblematic of the team as a whole and makes us all very excited for next season!"
Amaechi made it to the NCAA Championships in 2018 and 2019, earning First Team All-America honors in 2018 after finishing in seventh place. She is both the school and Ivy League record holder with a mark of 57.95 meters, earned at Heps in 2019.
