Game Week is Here: Women's Soccer to Host Pair of Opponents to Open Season

Loyola (Md.) will visit Friday at 7 p.m. and Saint Joseph's will do so on Sunday at 11 a.m. as the Princeton women's soccer team opens its 2021 season this week on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

The Tigers, who have won two of the last three Ivy League titles awarded, have 12 players on the roster of 28 who could see their first collegiate competition this weekend. Among the returners, the scorers of 14 of the team's 23 goals from the 2019 season are back, as are previous All-Ivy honorees in 2019 first-teamer Madison Curry, three-time All-Ivy pick Lucy Rickerson, and 2018 honorable mention Emma Davis.
Loyola is a week into its regular season and stands at 1-1 with a 1-0 win over Marist on Thursday and a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Clemson. Princeton and the Greyhounds have met four times, all between 1999 and 2006, with Princeton winning the first, at home in 1999, at home in the NCAA tournament in 2001, and again at home in 2006. Loyola won on its home field in 2000.
Saint Joseph's is also a week into its regular season, falling at Towson last Thursday, 3-0, and at home to St. John's last Sunday, 5-0. Princeton is 5-0 all-time against the Hawks, winning at home in 2007, in 2012, and in 2018, and on the road in 2013 and 2019. Current junior Grace Sherman had Princeton's goal in the 1-0 win in 2019, and all five of Princeton's wins in the series have come by shutout.Â
