No. 19 Princeton Uses Five-Goal First Quarter To Take Down BU
September 19, 2021 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON – The No. 19 Princeton Tigers used a four-goal outburst over the first 10 minutes of game action to take down the Boston University Terriers, 7-0, at Bedford Field on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Zoe Shephard got the scoring started just two minutes in as she dribbled along the left baseline and snuck the ball in. Sammy Popper intercepted a Terrier possession, took the ball in the circle and whipped an attempt by the goalie to jump ahead by two. Claire Donovan knocked in a Beth Yeager (more on her later) pass to put the home team up three five minutes in.
Â
Yeager kept the offense going as she dribbled up the middle from the defensive half and ripped in a shot for her first of the day.
Â
Just like that, it was 4-0 in 10 minutes.
Â
Lily Webb touched in a Yeager attempt off a corner at the 14-minute mark to give Princeton five tallies in the first stanza.
Â
Hannah Davey found Yeager in the center of the circle who disposed the Tigers' sixth goal of the afternoon in the second frame. The freshman later earned her first career hat trick, scoring off a corner in the third quarter. She finished the decisive win with eight points, adding two helpers.
Â
Princeton's seven goals are the most its scored in a contest since an 8-1 victory over Columbia in October of 2019. The Tigers head to No. 9 Maryland on Tuesday (Sept. 21, 4 p.m.).
