Tigers Draw at No. 8 Georgetown to Stay Undefeated
September 05, 2021 | Women's Soccer
Princeton outshot No. 8 Georgetown both overall and on goal Sunday afternoon in the nation's capital, and the Tigers and Hoyas played to a 1-1 draw that kept both teams undefeated on the new season.
The teams have met three times in their history, all since 2018, and all three have gone into overtime. Georgetown won the first two, in 2018 and 2019.
Princeton outshot the Hoyas 9-6 overall and 5-3 on goal, with Georgetown keeper Allie Augur making four saves.Â
"Games like today's are a joy to be a part of," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "Our team fought valiantly and created some great opportunities to get the winner against one of the top programs in the country. We defended well and competed every minute of the game. As a coach, there is nothing more I could ask for."
The Tiger goal came in the 37th minute, when Tatum Gee served a ball into the 18-yard box for Jen Estes to head toward goal and off Augur's outstretched arms to put the Tigers in front.
Â
Georgetown's goal came in the 58th minute when Cyanne Doyle tipped in a Boo Jackson pass slid along the end along the end line, and the game stood 1-1 the rest of the way.
The game was the first of a back-to-back against opponents in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25, as Princeton will head to No. 16 Rutgers on Thursday.Â
