On Princeton: The Tigers are unbeaten through four games for the first time since 2017, standing 3-0-1 and outscoring opponents 9-3. Seven players have split the goals with senior Tatum Gee, reigning Ivy League Player of the Week, and rookie Lily Bryant leading with two apiece. Gee scored twice against George Mason and had the assist against No. 8 Georgetown on the way to winning the award. The Tigers are coming off that tie Sunday against the Hoyas in D.C., outshooting Georgetown 9-6 overall and 5-3 on goal.
On Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights jumped seven spots to No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches weekly poll on Tuesday. Now 4-0, Rutgers has outscored its opponents 22-1 on the season with 10 players splitting the goals and senior Frankie Tagliaferri leading the team with five. Four keepers have split time in goal with Meagan McClelland accounting for more than 86 percent of that time, accruing an .857 GAA.
Series History: The Scarlet Knights are Princeton's most-played non-conference opponent, with Rutgers leading the series 17-10-4. The teams last met in 2019, resuming the series that year after having not met since 2015. The 2019 game ended with a 0-0 draw, with Rutgers' McClelland making five saves to preserve the shutout. Rutgers holds a six-game unbeaten streak in the series, with Princeton's last win in the series coming in 2007. Rutgers would be the highest-ranked opponent Princeton has defeated since upsetting No. 2 North Carolina in the round of 16 of the 2017 NCAA tournament.
On Rhode Island: While Princeton is taking on Rutgers, the Rams will head to Holy Cross on Thursday. Rhode Island (0-3-1) enters that game looking for its first win. All four of URI's games have finished within two goals, and only one had even that margin, as Brown hosted URI for a 3-1 Bears win on Sept. 2.
Series History: Though Princeton and Rhode Island have never met, the game will be Princeton's third of the new season against an Atlantic 10 opponent, with the Tigers getting wins over Saint Joseph's and George Mason already.
Next Up: The Tigers will be home again on Thursday, Sept. 16 against Hofstra before heading to Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 19.
