
Men’s Basketball Falls to Yale, 80-74

PRINCETON, N.J. – Despite trimming a 17-point deficit down to two, the Princeton University men's basketball team fell just short to Yale University, 80-74, Saturday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
The win moved the Tigers to 15-4 overall, 5-1 in Ivy League play, and 11-1 at home. It snapped the Tigers' winning streak at 10 games, which previously stood as No. 3 in the nation for active win streak.
Senior Jaelin Llewellyn led the way with a team-high 23 points; he went 6-for-12 from behind the three-point line, setting a new career-high in three-pointers made, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists. Senior Ethan Wright finished with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Junior Tosan Evbuomwan finished with 15 points, and junior Ryan Langborg 10. Sophomore Matt Allocco added a career-high eight rebounds.
The Tigers opened the game with back-to-back dunks; Wright threw down a powerful two-hander at 19:56, then he drove and dumped it off to Evbuomwan for the two-hander with 19:19 on the clock to give Princeton an early 4-0 lead.
Yale responded with an 11-0 run, that was halted by a senior Max Johns layup with 13:22 left to play. Llewellyn drained a three from the top of the arc with 12:09 on the clock, making it a 19-9 contest, then scored six-straight points starting with a three-pointer at 9:42 that made it a 23-15 game with 8:05 left in the half.
Evbuomwan cut the lead to six, 25-19, with a pair of free throws with 7:10 on the clock, but the Bulldogs responded with an 8-0 run and took a 43-26 advantage into halftime.
Princeton opened the second half on a 6-0 run, sparked by a Langborg pull-up jumper with 19:49 left in the half. Back-to-back three-pointers by senior Drew Friberg and Langborg made it a six-point game, 47-41, with 16:23 left to play.
Yale would extend its lead to 11 points, 54-43, with 13:47 remaining, then would continue to trade baskets with the Tigers. A Wright three-pointer from the right corner with 6:58 left to play made it a 63-52 contest, then a Llewllyn three-pointer with 2:10 on the clock sparked an 8-0 run that made it a two-point game, 74-72, with 1:07 remaining. The Bulldogs would knock down four free throws inside the final 20 seconds, to hold on for the 80-74 victory.
