October 04, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
In what will be the first chance to see the 2022-23 Princeton women's hockey team in competition, the Tigers, ranked No. 9 in the nation in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and DCU/USCHO.com poll, will host the University of Montreal in an exhibition game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Baker Rink.

On the opponent: The Carabins play in a six-team league, RSEQ (Quebec Student Sport Federation), that includes Bishop's University, Carleton University, Concordia University, McGill University, and the University of Ottawa. Montreal finished a third-place 8-5-2 in the league last season. The Carabins will be facing three Ivy League teams in three days, starting at Harvard Friday, then Brown Saturday and Princeton Sunday. The Carabins return no netminders who played last season, but the team brings back all but one of its goal scorers from last season, led by Audrey-Anne Veilette, who had six goals.
On the Tigers: Princeton returns the scorers of 48 of its 58 goals from last season, led by 13-goal scorer senior Maggie Connors and 10-goal scorer junior Annie Kuehl. Between the pipes, Rachel McQuigge '22 graduated after playing nearly 85 percent of the team's minutes in goal last season. Senior Cassie Reale and sophomore Jennifer Olnowich return after combining to play the remaining minutes last season. Connors is climbing the Princeton career goals list, entering the season at 61, 14th on the list. Another 20-goal season, which would be Connors' third with the program, would vault her into eighth place on the program list.
Quite an addition: After last skating for the Tigers in the 2019-20 season that saw Princeton win its first ECAC Hockey tournament title, junior Sarah Fillier won two IIHF World Championships and an Olympic gold medal with Canada. At the Olympics, Fillier scored eight goals to stand second among all players in the tournament and had 11 points to stand sixth among all players. She returns to Princeton to resume a career that has her more than halfway to the program's career records for both assists, now with 70 (record is 122), and points, now with 114 (record is 218). Sunday's stats won't count toward that, but the chase for those marks can resume on Oct. 28 in the regular-season opener against Colgate at Baker Rink.
100 Years at Baker Rink: Baker Rink, which opened in January 1923, is celebrating its centennial this season. The 100th anniversary recognition weekend is set for Jan. 6-7, when the women's team will host Dartmouth and Harvard.
ECAC playoff success: The Tigers have made at least the semifinals of the ECAC Hockey tournament in each of its last three competitive seasons. Princeton made it consecutive ECAC semi runs for the first time in 2020 and then extended that program-best run to a third straight competitive season in 2022, doing so after becoming the first eighth seed in tournament history to take a best-of-three series from the top seed in beating Harvard in the quarterfinals.
