Princeton N.J - The Princeton women's cross country team is set for the 2022 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday, and will head to Penn State University. The women's 6k championship race, originally scheduled to begin at noon, has now been officially set for 10:30 am in order to avoid potential, inclement weather.
The women will enter Friday's race ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region. The top two finishing teams and the four highest-finishing individuals not on teams that advance, will earn bids to the NCAA Championship at Oklahoma State University on November 19th.
It will be a battle in University Park for a team-automatic bid, given that nationally ranked, No. 13 Georgetown, is heavily favored to win the region. Princeton will also be up against No. 29 West Virginia, Penn State, and Villanova on race day.
Although Friday is calling for some tremendous rain, it is not the first time the Tigers have battled the elements. The last time the team raced at Penn State for the NCAA Regionals in 2018, the weather was horrendous throughout the entire race.
Despite these conditions, the team finished second in the region and advanced to the NCAA Championships. Hopefully, history can repeat itself, and the team takes full advantage of the climate to survive and advance.
"We are thrilled to be rolling into the Mid-Atlantic Regional full of momentum and motivation," said head coach Brad Hunt. "Our entire training and racing schedule has been designed to be our very best during the championship season. The adverse weather, combined with the challenging course and great competition from the top ranked teams in the region, will demand us to be at the top of our game to reach our goal of advancing to the NCAA Championships as a team. We are ready for the opportunity and we cannot wait for Friday!"
