Princeton To Face Syracuse At Maryland Friday In NCAA Tournament
November 06, 2022 | Field Hockey
It'll be the Orange and Black against the Orange when the NCAA field hockey tournament starts Friday, and the winner of that game will be seeing red in the second round.
Princeton, the Ivy League champion, has drawn a first-round game Friday at 2:30 at the University of Maryland against Syracuse, whom the Tigers defeated 5-1 back on Sept. 9. The first game of the day will start at noon and match the third-seeded host school (team color red) and the 2021 NCAA runner-up Liberty (school color also red).
The winners will play Sunday at 1 for a trip to the Final Four at UConn.
Princeton enters the NCAA tournament on an eight-game winning streak and with a 13-4 record overall. The Tigers had a perfect Ivy League record for the 20th time in program history while winning the 27th league title.
The Tigers will be making their 26th appearance in the NCAA tournament. The program has reached nine NCAA Final Fours and four NCAA finals, including winning the championship in 2012. Princeton has reached the Final Four three times since Carla Tagliente and Dina Rizzo took over the coaching staff in 2016.
Both Tagliente and Rizzo won the NCAA championship while teammates at Maryland.
The No. 1 overall seed is North Carolina, whom Princeton lost to 4-3 in its opener. Northwestern, the second seed, and Michigan, the fourth seed, are the other host schools.
