Men's Basketball Topples Yale, 81-75

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In a battle of the top two teams in the Ivy League standings, the Princeton University men's basketball team earned an 81-75 victory over Yale University, Saturday night inside the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
Junior Tosan Evbuomwan was outstanding, scoring a game-high 26 points, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds, and tying for the team-high in assists with five. Senior Ethan Wright added 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field, 3-for-6 shooting from three, and also grabbed nine rebounds while tying with Evbuomwan for the game-high in assists with five. Senior Drew Friberg chipped in 12 points, and five rebounds.
While the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, back-to-back three-pointers by senior Jaelin Llewellyn and Wright saw the Tigers take a 10-7 lead with 15:57 left to play. Five-straight points by Wright then extended Princeton's lead to 15-9 at 15:12.
With 12:18 left in the half, a Friberg three-pointer kept Princeton in front, 22-17, before a three by senior Max Johns extended the Tigers' advantage to seven points with 8:33 remaining in the half. Friberg sank Princeton's seventh three-pointer of the half at 5:04, and gave the Tigers 39-30 lead.
While the second half began as a back-and-forth battle, an Evbuomwan layup with 16:59 left to play sparked a 6-0, putting the Tigers ahead 54-47 with 15:52 left to play.
Princeton would maintain its advantage; a layup by sophomore Matt Allocco led off a 10-run, that gave the Tigers a 69-56 lead with 9:27 remaining, following a senior Elijah Barnes layup. The Bulldogs battled back, narrowing the margin to four points, 72-68, with 3:40 left, but the Tigers managed to stay in control. With 0:27 remaining, Friberg knocked down a pair of free throws, then Llewellyn made another at 0:15, and the Tigers held on for the 81-75 victory.
Princeton hosts Harvard University (13-10, 5-6) on Friday, February 25, at 7 p.m. inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
