Harvard Evens ECAC Quarterfinal Series, Sets Up Winner-Take-All Sunday
February 26, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Harvard's first lead of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series came at just the right time for the top-seeded and No. 6-ranked Crimson against the eighth-seeded Princeton women's hockey team, as a Kristin Della Rovere goal 12 seconds into overtime lifted Harvard to a 2-1 overtime win and forcing a winner-take-all third game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Sunday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ in the U.S. and on Stretch internationally. Live scoring will be available here.
Princeton scored the first goal in each of the first three periods in Friday's series opener, and after a scoreless first period in Saturday's game two, the Tigers struck first again, with Shannon Griffin sending a pass from behind the goal to Grace Kuipers in front to send it in for a 1-0 lead four minutes into the second period.
Harvard answered with a Shannon Hollands goal just more than a minute into the third period, and it stayed there through the end of regulation. Della Rovere then scored soon after the overtime period began, and the teams will meet again on Sunday for a spot in the ECAC Hockey semifinals.
The semifinal and final round will take place at either Harvard, Yale or Colgate. Princeton-Harvard is one of two Game Threes on Sunday in the conference, with second-seeded Yale hosting seventh-seeded St. Lawrence also at 3 p.m. If Harvard wins, the final four teams will play at Harvard. If Princeton and Yale both win, next weekend's games will be at Yale. If Princeton and St. Lawrence win, they'll be at Colgate. Fourth-seeded Quinnipiac also already advanced, as did Colgate. Harvard would face either St. Lawrence or Quinnipiac with a win, and Princeton would face either Yale or Colgate.
