Women’s Water Polo Goes 1-1 on Day One of LMU Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 19 Princeton University women's water polo team split day one of the Loyola Marymount Invitational, falling to No. 18 Loyola Marymount 13-9 while defeating Biola 16-9.
Loyola Marymount
Princeton jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with goals from Kayla Yelensky and Rachael Carver. LMU would answer with two goals of their own, tying the score with over seven minutes to play in the first half. Princeton and LMU would trade goals back and forth, until the Lions scored with just over ten seconds left to play to claim a 6-5 halftime lead.
The orange and black would open the second half with another two-goal scoring streak, before LMU scored four unanswered to take a 10-7 lead. The Tigers were unable to close the gap and fell 13-9.

Biola
The Tigers exploded for eight first quarter goals, with Jovana Sekulic accounting for four of them. A second quarter hattrick from Meera Burghardt extended Princeton's advantage to 11-2, and the Tigers would carry a 11-4 lead into halftime. The game was mostly decided at that point, with the Tigers cruising to a 16-9 victory.
