Heavyweight Rowing Returns To Lake Carnegie In Winning Fashion
March 26, 2022 | Heavyweight Rowing
PRINCETON – Back on home water and back in the win column!
Princeton opened its 2022 men's heavyweight rowing campaign with an open water win over a trio of visiting teams as the Tigers crossed the line 4.5 seconds clear of second place Drexel in the 1V on Lake Carnegie.
Contesting their first regatta on home water since May 4, 2019, the Tigers won the 1V, 2V, and 3V in convincing fashion. In addition to the nearly five-second win in the first varsity, the second varsity (8.4 seconds) and third varsity (10.0 seconds) each had wide margins of victory in a season debut which for many also served as their Princeton debut.
"After three years without racing here on Carnegie, it was so incredible to experience the energy and excitement of a home event," said head coach Greg Hughes. "For three-quarters of our team, it was their first spring race for Princeton and that is always fun to watch. The team raced hard today and it was a good first step in our season. We've got a better feel for the things we need to work on this coming week and we are all excited to head down to Annapolis this coming weekend for our races with Navy."
