The most recent edition of the Navy-Princeton Rowing Cup race came in 2019, a 10.4-second win for the Tigers on Lake Carnegie. The Tigers enter the weekend with wins in 25 of the last 26 dual races with Navy.
"We had good races across the board last weekend and it was a solid first step into this year's racing season," said senior Jens Clausen. "The team has lots of work to do and it's motivating to start with a strong foundation. We're looking forward to continuing this progression with our races at Navy this week. It will be our first of a few key weekends on the road. We're excited to get out there and leave it all on the race course!"
Last weekend, Princeton opened its spring racing on home water against Drexel, Temple and Georgetown. The Tigers won three of the four races, claiming victory in the 1V, 2V and 3V. For the varsity crew, their win was by a margin of 4.5 seconds over a Drexel team which is ranked No. 16 this week. Temple, ranked No. 18 this week, was 6.4 seconds behind the Tigers and No. 21 Georgetown was 10.4 seconds behind Princeton.
"After opening our season here on Carnegie, we will head out onto the road for the next four weeks' racing," said head coach Greg Hughes. "Being on the road together helps build the bonds required of a championship team, and we look forward to embracing the challenge of being on the road and competing against quality opponents. I am always excited to head down to Annapolis to race Navy. They've got a strong team on all levels this year and it will be competitive across the board."
Navy's first rowing of the spring season was also on Lake Carnegie last weekend, as the Midshipmen rowed Boston University and Brown on Sunday. Navy's only win came in the 5V. Navy was third in the 1V to No. 6 Brown by 7.1 seconds with No. 12 Boston University taking second.
